01 Mar 10 Typical Amenities on Cruise Ships

For those planners interested in organizing meetings at sea, you may be interested in learning more about the amenities cruise ships typically offer.   Each year many companies host incentive cruises and other types of meetings at sea. If you have never been on a cruise ship before, you may be wondering what activities, facilities, and services can be found onboard. The activities found onboard a cruise ship will vary from ship to ship, but many cruise ships have a number of activities and services in common.

Cruise ships have well equipped meeting room facilities and other large venues to host your meetings and events.  The A/V equipment is usually state-of-the-art and sure to meet all of your needs.

Some of the most well-known facilities found on cruise ships are dining rooms, restaurants, and buffets. Large cruise ships may offer a number of onboard dining facilities. It is important to note that many of these dining facilities are considered gourmet restaurants. In addition to a sit-down restaurant, there area usually a number of small eateries located onboard. Elegant dining restaurants are popular among cruisers.

Swimming pools, libraries, video arcades, and movie theaters can often be found on cruise ships.  In addition, cruise ships generally have a casino.  Popular gambling activities include slots, blackjack, poker, and much more. Many onboard casinos are open for business twenty-four hours a day. Gambling is a popular cruise ship pastime

Almost all cruise ships have onsite fitness centers, fully equipped gyms, and luxurious spas. These gyms are often similar, and sometimes even better, than the gyms found in your hometown. In addition to a fitness center, a large number of cruise ships have jogging tracks.

17 Feb 10 Planning Weddings and Commitment Ceremonies on a Cruise Ship

Much like planning meetings and corporate events on cruise ships, planning onboard weddings, commitment ceremonies and vow renewal ceremonies can actually be easier and more cost-effective than their land-based counterparts. Whether your clients opt for a very affordable one- or two-night cruise, or a luxurious two-week cruise for both their nuptials and their honeymoon,  cruise ship weddings are sure to be a memorable, fun event for all who attend.

When couples choose a cruise, they no longer have to worry about entertaining out-of-town guests during their entire stay, whether or not there will be enough alcohol at the bar during their reception and whether or not the DJ will show up. They will have the benefit of onboard entertainment, meals and some drinks throughout the cruise being included in the price, utilizing the music and bar services available through the cruise line and having the option of hanging out with their guests or hiding away on their own in the days before and after the ceremony.

As the wedding planner, you will enjoy a simple, convenient planning experience working with a cruise line that is sure to have substantial experience in having weddings onboard. Between your professional services and their well-established protocols, planning your clients’ onboard wedding or ceremony will be a breeze.

16 Dec 09 How To Save Money On Business Meetings and Conferences

One of the biggest problems that business meetings have is a loss of control over participants who would rather be at home cleaning their bathrooms. Even participants who enter a business meeting with good intentions can become bored and restless if machinery is malfunctioning or there are pauses in the presentation due to an agenda that isn’t working out as planned.

An interesting way to guarantee quick results at a business meeting is to hold your meeting in a place that offers desirable after-meeting entertainment options that cannot happen until all work is completed. When your meeting is composed of busy individuals who have someplace to be, they will settle down and do their best to be helpful towards finishing the work-at-hand in a quick and productive manner.

The art of combining a structured business trip with desirable participant activities requires some creative thinking and a calculator. In reality, a business meeting can be held in any appropriately outfitted conference room that comes complete with reasonably priced comfortable accommodations, choices in cuisine, and an easy-access location that allows for all transportation concerns.

Cruise ships have comfortable lodging, elegant varieties of free food, no transportation needs after reaching the point of departure, and an ideal conference room that is available with state-of-the-art equipment for passengers to use. These floating hotels also offer quality entertainment options, health spas, room service and space for traveling family members to enjoy themselves too.

With a few quick clicks on the calculator, it is easy to see how the price of a cruise meeting will beat the traditional lodging, restaurant, and transportation costs of a business meeting from many locations inside of the United States today. Even with airfares involved to get to the points-of-departure, with the vacation industry discounts being offered right now, a cruise can be the most economical way to conduct your next business meeting.

14 Dec 09 Dear Santa, Bring Me A Cruise Meeting?

Dear Santa Boss,

I’ve been good this year. I didn’t really didn’t try to spill Larry’s coffee all over those horrible business meeting presentation packets; that mess was really just an accident even though everybody started to applaud. I really didn’t mean to make Larry cry either. Poor Larry…

Well, let me rephrase this. Santa? I’m not always good. But, it’s present time anyway?

All I want for Christmas this year is for my July business meeting to happen on a nice sunny cruise ship with free food, after hours entertainment, and an air conditioned conference room. Oh, and a hair dryer available in case I spill my coffee on important papers again. Larry would like it if I requested a hair dryer. See? I’m even thinking of others.

Please Santa Boss, sir? The cost of an incentive cruise is often cheaper than car rentals, motel accommodations, and restaurant food plus important time can be saved by having all meeting members corralled on the same cruise ship where they cannot get lost in traffic.

Just because some people use cruise ships for vacations does not mean that my trip on a luxurious cruise ship cannot be used for work. Conference-style meeting rooms are available on cruise ships that will fit everybody involved, and we can always pull the blinds in those conference rooms until the meeting is over if the windows offer a nasty ol’ scenic view. I promise not to look out of the windows!

So, can I please have a cruise ship for Christmas this year? I’m good. It will save the company money.

10 Dec 09 Who Needs Money? Business Meetings Can Still Be Fun

When companies or organizations want to increase sales, production, or services, a common method of motivation is to give the players gifts that encourage them to have a positive attitude towards the hosting business. With today’s economy putting a crunch onto all types of promotional gifts, some smart companies are beginning to mix business meetings with unexpected pleasures for their deserving employees or clients.

The vacation trip industry has been hit hard by the spider-web of recent economical woes. At all levels, lodgings and vacation oriented transportation options are discounted to encourage participation. For company representatives that are searching for ways to spice up their next business meeting or conference plans now is the time to explore the possibilities of hosting the next meeting rendezvous at a traditional vacation destination.

Cruise ships and large vacation home rentals are both fun money saving options over traditional business meeting plans. When a group of people can be housed in the same location with room to work, there is no reason not to explore the options of placing your team into a working vacation situation while they are on the road to take advantage of the greatly reduced vacation plan savings that are being offered to travelers today.

The benefits of a cruise meeting includes free food, large comfortable conference rooms, and after-hours entertainments. The benefits found in luxury vacation homes include a whole nice home with multiple locking bedrooms and a working kitchen for cheaper prices than a motel bedroom. This year is a very good time to look into holding your next important business meeting at a desirable vacation spot getaway location.

21 Oct 09 The Blue Grotto on the Island of Capri

Blue Grotto Capri Italy

Blue Grotto Capri Italy

Summer seems barely over, but it is not too soon to think about next year’s bookings. A trip to Italy is a wonderful incentive, particularly if the lucky employee’s destination is the Island of Capri. Luxury accommodations are available at one of the island’s hotels.

The Grand Hotel Quisisiana Hotel, located in the heart of Capri, is a five star luxury hotel whose staff will pamper a weary executive or host a meeting in the hotel’s theater area. Two other five star luxury hotels grace the island: the Capri Palace Hotel-Spa and the JW Marriott Capri Tiberio Palace & Spa.

The island has many tourist attractions and the most famous has to be the Blue Grotto. The underground sea caves are renowned for their intense blue color and the silver light that floats through the walls. Recent investigations indicate that at least four Roman statues may lie underneath the turquoise blue water.

Those are not the only statues at the Blue Grotto. In 1964, statues of Neptune and Triton were pulled from the sea bottom. The sculpture of the sea gods are now on display in Anacapri. The recent diving survey indicates that four other statues may lie at the bottom of the sea. Additional sculptures are an exciting find for this island paradise and its visitors.

A trip to the Blue Grotto is an experience a hard working employee will never forget. It’s sure to inspire loyalty and demonstrates corporate appreciation of hard work and dedication.

Many cruise ships stop at Naples and Capri, so a group cruise is a great way to see the Mediterranean area.  Why not make your next event an incentive cruise?

24 Aug 09 Cruise Meeting Specialists to Stage Floating Accommodations for Commonwealth Meeting

Contact: Joyce Landry, CEO
Telephone: 1+305-661-1880
Email: jlandry@landrykling.com

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO TAP CRUISE EVENT SPECIALISTS,
LANDRY & KLING,

TO STAGE “FLOATING HOTELS” FOR COMMONWEALTH MEETING

Miami, FL, August 18, 2009 — Riding on the success of the Fifth Summit of the Americas in April this year, the Government of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago (GORTT) has once again turned their trust to cruise meeting specialists Landry & Kling, the first to use floating hotels for global events, to stage the bi-annual Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November.

To supplement housing for this prestigious meeting, where leaders of 53 Commonwealth countries will convene to discuss global, political and economic issues, Landry & Kling has secured two ships on behalf of the GORTT, Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas and Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess, which will be docked within walking distance of the Hyatt Regency, the host venue. In addition to supplementing local accommodations with up to 2,500 more sleeping rooms, the ships will also function as adjunct convention facilities and dining venues to complement the Hyatt Hotel. A host of meetings will be held on board the two cruise ships, and a casino will be transformed into a trade show with up to 20 table-top exhibits.

During the recent Fifth Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, Princess Cruises’ “floating hotel” Caribbean Princess was the venue for 2 days of Plenary Sessions, luncheons, and Closing Ceremonies for the Private Sector Forum and for all Youth Forum Events on April 15-16. The ship was docked adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Trinidad.

“We are thrilled and honored to have been chosen to play a pivotal role in making this important gathering a success,” said Joyce Landry, CEO of Landry & Kling. She added, “This project has been months in the making, and we look forward to putting our creativity and expertise to work on behalf of this prestigious event.”

As with any meeting of global governments, and particularly one as multifaceted as this is, there are a number of key aspects beyond the housing element that come into play for the Landry & Kling team, such as government protocol, security, multiple event logistics and the efficient flow of thousands of people from venue to venue to ensure a seamless operation.

While the actual CHOGM retreat will take place from November 27-29, the ships will arrive in Port of Spain on November 22nd and 23rd, as will participants for parallel events such as the Youth Forum and the Commonwealth Business Forum. To accommodate the week-long activities, Landry & Kling will be staffed 30 strong in strategic locations – the airport, cruise terminal, accreditation centers, and on board the ships – to ensure the event is staged with exact precision and flow.

As the premier company organising cruise events around the globe for more than 27 years, providing additional housing where demand for accommodations outstrips supply, has been one of Landry & Kling’s hallmarks.
What the concept of floating hotels means is that port cities and destinations around the world who never dreamed of hosting world class events and meetings can now vie for their share of the pie.

Beverly Khan, Deputy National Coordinator for the National Secretariat said, “Landry & Kling was the invisible force that brought it all together” during the Fifth Summit of the Americas. She noted that the cruise event specialists provided close to 3,000 rooms for attendees and a venue for pre-Summit events and planning sessions ranging from 400 to over 1,000 people for various parallel events including a live simulcast onboard the vessels for the opening ceremony followed by receptions onboard.
