The success of your meeting or event could hinge on how good your keynote speaker is. Meeting and event planners need to have a good plan for finding great keynote speakers. Here are some tips:
- Establish the date, location and budget of your event. These factors will play an important role in determining the pool of keynote speakers available to you. Your date, for example, will affect which keynote speakers are available, whereas your budget will limit whom you can and can’t afford to hire. In order to save on the cost of the keynote speaker’s travel, you may want to consider the distance between where he or she resides and where your event will take place.
- Determine the type of presentation you want and the time of day when it will take place. Some speakers are skilled at delivering workshops, while others excel at providing keynotes. If you have booked entertainment in the days of TARP, you probably had to cut all kinds of corners. Although you can cut back, make do, and substitute all you want to, is it really necessary? Entertainment does not have to be dancers, musicians, actors, and comedians. It can also be artists.
What? Have someone come in and paint portraits or something? Well, not quite. While portrait artists are certainly more in demand for entertainment these days, they are not your only choice. Caricature artists and others can also fill the entertainment void, but there are also stage artists.
If you sift through some of the videos at YouTube.com, you will see artists smearing paint with their hands on huge canvases, turning them around this want and that, end ending up with an amazingly large picture that is just astounding. There are artists that can do this on the fly, and paint things that the company might put on large rooms once everyone is back at work. They sometimes perform to music, which may inspire them for that particular painting.
Painting on the spot in front of an audience sounds nerve-wracking, but these artists are used to it and always provide a good evening. There is less of a chance of the technical difficulties that you would have with bands, and it’s probably different than anything the audience has seen before.
Give them something memorable that will stick with them forever. Track down one of these artists and compare the booking price to that of a five-piece band or well-known comedian. You may be very surprised.
