09 Sep 10 The ABCs of Meetings at Sea

Meetings have traditionally been held at hotels, conference centers, and other land-based public venues, but all of that is changing. The new way to host meetings and major events is to do at sea on a luxury cruise ship. Why? Because of the ABCs of meetings at sea:

  • A is for awesome service – Cruise ships are renowned in the travel industry for their unparalleled commitment to customer service.
  • B is breathtaking views – Some hotels have nice views or quaint views, but few of them can match the views afforded by a cruise ship. One day it is a gorgeous island paradise, the next morning it is clear open waters until the ship eventually arrives in a port with historic interest. Hotels stay put, what you get is what you get.
  • C is for customization – There really are not too many limits to what you can ask for and not reasonably expect to get on a cruise ship.

These floating resorts offer all sorts of options to make your cruise a truly unique and wonderful experience.
There was an ‘s’ at the end of ABCs, and it is small for a reason. That small s stands for savings, and the fact that you will actually save a modest amount of money by opting to have a meeting at sea instead of having it in a hotel with a conference room. No more caterers, no more booking a night club for a serious mixer, no more DJs to worry about. All you will have to do is determine where to invest those savings.

12 Jul 10 Choosing Destinations

When it is time to plan a meeting, there are plenty of possibilities. The brochures and promotional materials make sound arguments in favor of many different venues, but ultimately a single venue must be selected for a single event. Here are some ideas to help you effectively reduce the number of options being seriously considered:

• To go all the way or not – If you are too busy to plan every little detail, look for all-inclusive options that handle some or all of the planning for you. This can lead to significant time savings and surprisingly, as well as a tangible amount of money saved.

• Local or long distance – There are both local venues and venues in other cities. If all the participants are from your city, then a local venue might make sense unless travel and attendance is to be considered a perk. If customers are the focus of the meeting/event, then go where they are.

• By land or by sea – Do not discount cruise ships as venues for meetings and events. In fact, cruise ships make amazing destinations for many different kinds of events. Remember that cruise events are more appropriate for certain audiences and companies than other.

• Consider price – Price is important, but that makes apples to apples comparisons difficult.

05 Mar 10 The Power Of The Pen

For an entertaining and inexpensive meeting idea, why not offer your meeting attendees both ballpoint and rollerball pens?

Here in America, the ballpoint pen is the favored pen that is sold in all of the stores, and in the UK, the rollerball pen rules. Ink pens all originated in the same UK place, and then the American industrial revolution brought them to our country. The ink delivery systems are the same in both the USA ballpoint pen and the UK rollerball pens; however, the ink recipe is different.

Here in America, we went for a thicker ink that dried instantly when it topped the page. Our ballpoint ink does not seep into the paper layers to provide a very long-lasting image that the generation down the road will see. In the UK, the rollerball pen uses a thinner ink formula that is delivered through the same ink delivery system that soaks into the paper and takes a moment before it is dry and free from smearing. Many feel that the old world qualities of the UK ink recipes are superior to the American Bic-style of ballpoint pens.

When the UK inks and the American inks are explained at the beginning of the business meeting, this becomes a fascination. The simple act of taking notes during the meeting becomes an important and noteworthy activity to those who are at the meeting presentation. Rollerballl pens and ballpoint pens cost about the same amount of money. It is easy for all meeting planners to supply a variety of pens with different ink properties to their clients.
