18 Dec 09 Heads UP! New Flight Rules May Affect Business Travel in 2010

Heads UP! The Transportation Security Administration is putting a new rule into effect in March 2010 that could affect your business traveling needs if you are not prepared for this new airline boarding technicality before it happens.

Starting in March 2010, all government issued identification documents must match each other and the name placed onto the flight pass exactly or the passenger will not be allowed onto an airplane. What this means is that Robert may not be called Bob on one document or R. on another. Or, that poor old Mary Smith-Jones may not save time by signing in as just Mary Jones or M. Smith-Jones. From now on all names must match exactly on all identification and documentation involved in airline travels.

Frequent business travelers are encouraged to check their documentations at home, at work, and in their pockets now to avoid miss flights when the new rules take effect. If new documentations must be ordered through government offices to fix spelling errors, or initials that have not been spelled out, this process can take from 6 to 8 weeks with some agencies.

Information is not readily available today on what happens to newlyweds who are trying to fly with documents that are not all picture perfect a few hours after the wedding ceremony, or divorcees that have legal permission on court documents to use more than one name for identification purposes. All that we know is that all documents must match the boarding pass name spelling exactly after the new rules take effect.
